Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Improves On-Time Performance.

Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport increased their on-time percentage for arrivals and departures for the month of July. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Air Travel Consumer Report, released today, showed that the airport had 38,241 arrivals with an on-time percentage of 70.9. Some 38,259 arrivals were on-time 73.5 percent.

A year ago, the on-time percentage for departures stood at 68.2, and for arrivals 69.6 percent. Delta Air Lines, who has a hub in Atlanta, ranked 13th out of 19 U.S. carriers for on-time flights with a percentage of 75.5. A year earlier, the carrier ranked 15th with an on-time percentage of 69.6. The carrier ranked 18th for consumer complaints in July, and ranked 11th for mishandled baggage reports (23,749).

The other carrier that has a hub at ATL, AirTran Airways, came in 17th place for on-time performance with 69.8 percent of flights arriving / departing on-time. A year ago, the airline ranked 12th. The carrier ranked 8th in consumer complaints. AirTran was the best of all 19 carriers for mishandled baggage reports.

This is great news overall. If you look at the big picture, we’re seeing improvements all around at Atlanta. I’m sure that the reduced number of flights in and out of ATL played a significant factor.
