Dan’s Saturday Links #23

Here’s another set of links from my blog, Things in the Sky:

  1. United has unveiled a new product called Premier Line, which for a fee provides access to priority screening among other things. Ben over at One Mile at a Time has the details.
  2. Here’s an update on Ryanair’s attempt to take over Aer Lingus.
  3. United has announced details of a codeshare with EgyptAir.
  4. Mokulele Airlines and Westjet have announced a partnership. Mokulele has also partnered with Alaska.
  5. Southwest ground crews are beginning informational pickets at some airports.
  6. AirTran announced service to Branson, Mo. (the first airport completely financed with private money) this week. Brett Snyder (aka Cranky) has some good insight on the announcement, and he visited the airport recently.
  7. As a way to build up some cash, United sold 15 757s and is leasing them back.
  8. Should the airline industry receive some government money in a future stimulus package? Today in the Sky has a good article about this issue.

Happy weekend, everyone! Feel free to check out my blog here.

  1. RunwayGirl has an update on the Row 44 Internet service. The post focuses on what this means for Alaska, but it could also affect Southwest as well.
  2. Here’s a great article comparing the CEOs of JAL and United. (Hat tip to Max for the link.)
  3. Southwest has reached a tentative agreement with the AMFA.
  4. SPEEA approved a new contract with Boeing.
  5. Though negotiations with SPEEA members in Witchita don’t seem to be going that well.
  6. Cranky has an update on the Alitalia drama.
  7. It was announced that British Airways and Qantas were considering a merger. Iberia has expressed concern, and there doesn’t seem to be much enthusiasm in Australia.
  8. Continental is just about done upgrading the entertainment system in its 757-200s, and economy now has the same system as BusinessFirst as well as power outlets.
  9. Delta released some details on combining Skymiles and WorldPerks.

So, here’s my weekly Saturday Links post from my blog Things in the Sky:

I hope everyone had a great Thanksigiving! Here are this week’s links…

  1. The new Canadian airline Enerjet has received regulatory approval to operate.
  2. The AP has an interesting story on how Minneapolis airport’s attempts to bring Southwest to the airport.
  3. The IATA data for international travel in October wasn’t that good.
  4. Morgan Stanley has revised its forecast for the industry. Good reading.
  5. PC World has an interesting article about a security issue that popped up on the Qantas website.
  6. The latest Zagat survey did not rate New York’s airports very well. Tampa had the best score.

Dan’s Saturday Links #20

Hi, everyone! Dan Webb here. I run the blog “Things in the Sky” over at BoardingArea, and my good friend Jon invited me to share my weekly “Saturday Links” post on his blog. In this weekly post, I put up links to articles that I found interesting but either didn’t get to or that I decided not to write a post about. So, here it is. Also, please check out what I wrote on my blog this week!

So, to be completely honest this is a very ATW link-heavy post for some reason.

  1. ABX Air, which flies mainly for DHL, has begun outlining its plans for the future now that DHL is shriking in the US.
  2. Three new runways opened at US airports this week, and Jon Heckman has the details.
  3. Mexicana will be launching European flights next year. The first flight is Mexico City to Gatwick.
  4. Southwest has started a dining program for Rapid Rewards. There’s a good thread on FlyerTalk about it.
  5. Air France-KLM’s profit was way down compared to the same quarter last year. Like many of the US airlines, its results were affected negatively by potential hedging losses.
  6. Cranky  has a good post on a presentation by United on customer experience.

(Yes, I am aware that #2 is completely redundant)
